3 Practical Reasons to Get Newborn Photos

The sentimental reasons to get newborn photography done are obvious. The days are long but the years are short- and you want to preserve that newborn scrunch and those teeny tiny toes forever in beautiful photos. But you have a lot to do and a lot of decisions to make, and you might be wondering if professional newborn photography is really for you. Here are three real-life reasons to have a newborn portrait session:

  1. Making prints. Have you ever tried to print a photo that looked great on your phone, only for it to be blurry or pixelated? Smartphone cameras are amazing these days, but if you’re going to get prints to display in your home, especially anything larger than 5x7”, then a high-resolution photo is a must. There is a huge difference between how something looks on your phone screen and when it’s blown up or printed. Investing in photos taken with a professional camera means no more blurry or pixel-y looking images. The quality is better too.

Compare this cell phone snapshot (top) to a photo taken with a DSLR camera. The camera photo has more true to life colour, as well depth of shadow and lighting, while the phone photo is yellow-ish and flat.

2. You want everyone to be in the picture. It's easy to take beautiful phone snapshots of other people with your baby. But who takes a photo of all of you? Mums especially are often the ones getting photos of the baby with everyone else. With my newborn photography, full family photos (including pets!) are included, as well as shots with individual parents and siblings. No more trying to set up your phone on self-timer mode against a stack of books!

3. You’re busy! The newborn period is the sweetest but most demanding time in our lives. I can do the hard work and make your life easier with home-based lifestyle newborn photography. From simple booking, prep guides, and providing a range of props, to showing up at your door ready to go, it's one less thing for you to worry about.
